Windswept Sparks
Entry #: M 1943
Entrant: Linda McLaren
Dimensions: 56" x 70" Wall Quilt
Materials: Cotton fabric and Shweshwe prints.
Techniques: Half-square triangles using inserts and longarm quilting.
Artist’s Statement: The idea for this quilt came while driving to a quilting retreat called Windswept. Constructed using the Magic 8 method, I inserted strips of bright colours into the black, then created half-square triangles. The inserts generated random “sparks.” Quilting simple echoes in aqua thread created another dimension, showcasing the Shweshwe fabrics.
