Description: Sashiko is a traditional hand-embroidery technique that originated in Japan. Typically, Sashiko is stitched by hand in white thread on indigo fabrics. It is the simple, geometric designs used in Sashiko that first caught my eye. The intent of this class is not to copy or do Sashiko stitching, but to be able to quilt designs inspired and influenced by the structure and aesthetic of Sashiko stitching. The designs students will quilt are grid based and/or composed of simple lines and gentle curves that make them walking-foot-friendly.  While I may do a short review of walking foot basics, in this class students will focus on learning and practicing techniques used to achieve simple and more intricate Sashiko-inspired designs.
