Going in Circles Can Be a Good Thing

……………Not so much if you are lost in a forest or a desert!

However, circles in the quilting world have become very popular over the years. But it is not all about applique. Join Liz Thompson as she explores some ways in which you can use circles in your quilts: some you might think of right away, some you may not yet have encountered on your sewing journey:

  • Thumb tack circles
  • Sewing circles a super accurate way with your sewing machine
  • Drunkards path curves done in an unusual way
  • Garment sewing meets quilting for non-applique circles
  • ……and Liz’s absolute favourite method for perfect circles.

Enjoy a Powerpoint presentation with lots of pics and sewing machine demo’s to illustrate how “going in circles” can be a very good thing!

About Liz Thompson

Liz has been a passionate sewer since the age of 9 when she started making clothes for her dolls. Her dream had been to sew her own wedding and bridesmaids dresses – which she did. Over the years Liz’s sewing passions have included hand smocking & heirloom sewing; applique/quilting; machine embroidery; garment sewing; bag making and creating lingerie. You will find Liz sitting at her sewing machine almost everyday which is her very happiest place!

She is currently a member of Boundary Bay Quilters Guild and serves on the Education Program committee. Needless to say, she loves to attend Guild meetings and Quilting retreats to quilt and sew alongside other quilters.

Since she retired from a long career in the sewing industry, Liz has been building Sew and Learn with Liz Thompson (www.sewwithliz.com) to continue to share her sewing skills. She teaches group classes as well as individual sewing coaching – in person and on Zoom. In addition, she offers monthly free sewing clubs: Sew with Liz Club and Sew with Liz Lingerie Support group where fellow sewers can come to share ideas and get assistance with their sewing queries.

Liz is a proud Canadian – although she does have a different accent despite living in Vancouver, BC since she emigrated from South Africa many years ago!
