This traditionally-pieced block finishes at 20.5″ square, including seam allowance, perfect for making a wall hanging, tote bag, or pillow. You could also combine several blocks and make a pod of whales into a full-size quilt.
Designed by John MacPhail of Art East Quilting Co, the pattern for this block is featured in the Summer issue of Canadian Quilter, starting on page 58. You can also download a PDF of the pages, if you like making notes, or keeping patterns in a file.
All of John’s creatures are fun to make, and his instructions are very detailed and clear. If you create a There She Blows block for a quilting project, please be sure to share your photos on Facebook on the Quilting in Canada page or in the Quilting Projects group. We’d love to see what you do with it!
