2027 Welcome to the Wild West Quilt Along
Designed by Sarah Vanderburgh for CQA/ACC

Welcome to the Wild West!

This year’s quilt along features pieced and applique blocks that represent Western Canada. From mountains, cowboy hats, and boots, to a curling rock, roses and log cabins, this quilt puts the west front and center.

The wall hanging is 38” x 44” and if you want to make it bigger, you can follow the pattern and double some blocks to make a twin size quilt that finishes 54” x 68”. The piecing will use modern cutting and sewing techniques with your sewing machine. The applique is big pieces which translates to easier to do as raw edge applique with your sewing machine; of course, you can use another method if you prefer. The fabric choices for the designer’s samples use tone on tone prints, with lots of red and white. The wall hanging is done in Toscana fabrics by Northcott. Fabrics with small overall designs will suit some of the blocks and depending on your style, even the background fabric. There are opportunities to add fussy cutting and the border could be done in a large print fabric. There’s lots of room for you to make the quilt your own as we journey westward together.

Starting December 2nd with the fabric requirements and then every first Wednesday of the month a new installment will be available on this page of the  CQA/ACC Website, www.canadianquilter.com from January to May, 2027.
