March Quiltie Madness, In March, a friendly and meaningful initiative brought together the Arnprior & District Quilters’ Guild and the Almonte Quilters Guild. The Arnprior guild issued a warm invitation to their neighbours, challenging them to a “Quiltie Make-Off” running from March 1 to March 31. Framed as a lighthearted competition, the challenge encouraged both groups to create as many “quilties” as possible over the course of the month.Despite March being a busy time (particularly with Arnprior quilt show preparations underway) members of both guilds embraced the initiative with enthusiasm. By the end of the month, the results were remarkable. Together, the guilds produced a combined total of 638 quilties. The Arnprior & District Quilters’ Guild contributed 244 quilties, an impressive accomplishment given the demands of the season. The Almonte Quilters Guild achieved an outstanding total of 394 quilties, earning them the title of challenge winners. While the final tally highlighted a winning team, both guilds recognized that the real success of the Quiltie Make-Off lay in its impact. All 638 quilties are being donated to Almonte General Hospital, where they will provide warmth and comfort to families welcoming newborns. Each quiltie represents not only craftsmanship but also kindness and community support. The Quiltie Make-Off stands as a strong example of what can be achieved through collaboration and shared purpose. It combined creativity, generosity, and a touch of friendly competition to produce meaningful results. Both guilds can take pride in their contributions, not only in the number of quilties created but in the positive impact those items will have.
