My Tribute To Indigenous Pow Wow Dancers

Entry #: TT 1741
Entrant: Jan Hall
Dimensions: 78" x 94"
Materials: Cotton fabric, satin, leather, fur, hair, beads, coloured pencil and ribbons.
Techniques: Cotton fabric, satin, leather, fur, hair, beads, coloured pencil and ribbons.
Credits: Based on a photo taken by my son at a local powwow, as well as online research. Costume designs are my own originals. Quilt photograph by Larry Hall.
Artist’s Statement: I greatly admire the costumes and dances of our Indigenous people. I was taught to do beadwork from an Indigenous person many years ago, so designed my own beadwork and made it in this piece. This is a diptych because I wanted to portray the costumes of both sexes.
