Sea Dreams
Entry #: AL 1725
Entrant: Jan Clark
Dimensions: 85" x 40"
Materials: Cotton fabric, drapery fabric backed with canvas, acrylic paint, Letraset® blending pens and Staedtler® watercolour pencils.
Techniques: Hand and free-motion embroidery, machine, fused, raw-edge appliqué, machine piecing and domestic-machine quilting. Birds handmade, then appliquéd to quilt.
Credits: Photograph by Judy Leslie.
Artist’s Statement: Arbutus trees used to be common on Vancouver Island, but with the introduction of Scotch broom, which requires the same growing conditions, arbutus are being crowded out. I hope Sea Dreams shows how beautiful these trees were. I am dreaming of how they used to be, sentinels of the beaches.
