The West End Quilters are not letting Covid-19 slow them down. When meetings were cancelled in the middle of March people kept quilting and sending pictures back and forth to each other. We resumed outdoor in-person meetings in August in the garden of a member’s apartment complex. They had benches so we didn’t have to bring chairs and it was great actually being with the guild.

We are a small guild, with less than 20 members, so we are always happy to welcome new people. We were lucky to have three people who wanted to take up quilting join us.

We had three garden meetings, unfortunately, the fourth was cancelled due to rain. There are advantages to being inside. We have now moved our meetings online and although not in-person it is great to see everyone and we won’t have to go outside during the cold winter. We began a round-robin which most of us had never done. Three centre blocks were made by Barbara the organizer and handed off to three groups of four. One has already been returned and we are anticipating seeing the other two.

There is another advantage of meeting online. This week we were invited to join the Oakville Quilters for their meeting and were treated to a talk by Rebecca McAlpine on the history of quilts and their cultural significance. There was Bring and Brag and we really enjoyed chatting with the Oakville Quilters in the breakout sessions and all without getting up from our chairs.
