This quilt was inspired by the Tent Makers of Cairo. They use an intricate appliqué technique called Khayamiya which originated from architecture dating to the Ottoman Empire. With that art form in mind, I designed my quilt using a bright array of colours, embellished with hand woven techniques and embroidered with Swarovski crystals and beads.

Hand embroidery; machine appliqué; fused appliqué; machine piecing; painting; hand weaving. Cotton, wool and cotton batting, embroidery floss, Swarovski crystals, glass beads.
