If you’ve been a member for a few years, you may recall that you received a lapel pin tucked inside a letter, to welcome you to the Association.
In search of a new way of welcoming new members that doesn’t require mailing, and inspires quilters of all ages, styles, and skill levels, the Association decided in 2022 to start sharing quilt patterns instead.
Thanks to Lauren MacDonald—you know Lauren well from her helpful tips in the Electric Quilt pages of Canadian Quilter—for creating this original design, and to Shirley Dobson for developing the Beginner version.
While the goal was to create blocks that were in everyone’s Wheelhouse, there are also opportunities to learn something new, and add unique touches with appliqué, fussy cutting, or embroidery.
One block requires the sewing of curves, but you can choose to cut the curves and apply them with appliqué to the quilt. As you can see, there are myriad possibilities for placing and sizing the three different blocks to create any style of quilt you prefer.
All members have access to the patterns and are welcome to use them. Be sure to share your finished quilt images in the Quilting in Canada group on Facebook.
New members are encouraged to submit their quilt photos to the link provided in their Welcome Letters.
