Most of our ‘Snow Birds’ have returned home and our members are enjoying a great year with a variety of activities. We continue to provide community quilts for the Kelowna Women’s Shelter, and this year 2 of our members are also creating 2 very special Butterfly Quilts for the Kelowna Hospice House. We participated in our local HeArts Festival, where our members did a small block challenge around the theme of the Year of the Dog (Chinese New Year). We’ve enjoyed a wonderful Trunk Show by the fabulous Leslie Forbes and also were intrigued by the “Nature’s Healing Ways” quilts created by the Fabricators group from the Oliver area.
Our own generous members willingly share their talents and we’ve learned the art of thread painting, made large tote bags, and handy zippered pouches. There is a recent keen interest in fibre arts in our Pincushion guild and these quilters have been challenging each other as they stretch and grow and learn new techniques together. We love our monthly soup or salad potluck lunches, but a recent highlight was definitely the ‘High Tea’ that member Linda Craven surprised us with in honour of the Royal Wedding. As another member so aptly put it, all aspects of this morning were “conceptualized, created, prepared and served by the amazing Linda!” She even made fascinators for each of us to wear. As the end of the month approaches, we have a group of members very excited to be making the trip to Vancouver for the upcoming Quilt Canada!
