Since the world hit the pause button in March, we have been
thankful for the wonderful Saskatoon Quilters Guild executive team which has
been working hard to determine the best way to proceed in a new and safe way.
Currently virtual guild gatherings have been planned through February 2021 with
at least one activity for each month.

Throughout the spring and summer, members were encouraged to
make fabric postcards and mail them to other members. What a treat to receive
these precious gifts that keep us connected! A Christmas postcard exchange
challenge is being planned as well.

We are excited to participate in a Zoom presentation by
Gudrun Erla Gisladottif from GE Designs on October 26. “Stripology Mixology” is
the topic of this virtual lecture. It will be followed by a live question and
answer session.

Looking ahead, the executive will meet again in November to
assess the feasibility of proceeding with plans for the October 2021 Saskatoon
Quilt Show.

November will see a “Sewing for Serendipity” activity. We
will sew “together” on the Zoom platform, each in our own spaces. Serendipity
quilters have been preparing kits to put together, quilt tops in need of quilting
and bindings to do. Serendipity is a group of like-minded women, both members
and non-members of the Saskatoon Quilters Guild, who make 300-400 quilts each
year. These quilts are distributed throughout the Saskatoon community, with the
focus recipients being women and children. Much of the fabric is donated and
all of the hours are donated.

December’s guild activity is a Christmas Cheer and Social.
Again, we will meet, together yet apart, on Zoom.

Into the new year, we will be delighted with a few slide
show presentations. In January Karen Brown will be presenting  “Be the Best Quilter You Can Be”.  Susan Carlson’s topic is “Collage Quilting”
for the February presentation.

This extended time of perspective has allowed us to
appreciate all our blessings as we go forward, slowly, carefully and
respectfully, considering the effect of our actions on others. We are also
extremely grateful for the technology afforded us to stay connected.

Be safe, stay healthy, wear a mask!
