Saskatoon Quilters Guild

What an amazing quilt show! Reflections in Colour was the theme of the recent biennial event presented by the Saskatoon Quilters Guild. Congratulations to the organizing committee and the countless volunteers who
orchestrated this extravaganza. Nearly 500 quilts displayed the beautiful creativity and talents of our many Saskatchewan quiltmakers,
There was plenty to spark the imaginations of the approximately 2,500 talented quiltmakers and appreciative crowds who attended this two-day show. The judges had their work cut out for them deciding the winning quilts in
several categories, including the Show Theme Best in Show, which went to “Roses of Sharon” by Judy Butler. The Viewer’s Choice Award, along with the CQA/ACC Rosette was presented to Donna Edwards for her quilt “Reflections of Baltimore”. Congratulations to all award winners! There was so much to see and do including
the Serendipity quilt display and quilt raffle, free demonstrations, the Guild Boutique – a wonderful shopping stop for fabric related items made by our guild members, and the Merchant Mall with nearly 40 vendors. Of course, our feature quilter for this show, Jean Berndt from Saskatoon, drew in quite a crowd with her living room style display area. Jean is a truly gifted artist with many of her displayed quilts (several with ribbons attached) accompanied by pieces of furniture such as chairs, tables, a sleigh and boat oar featuring her coordinating artwork. Our trunk show presenter Terry Rowlands of Edmonton entertained and inspired a sold out crowd with her extensive array of quilts and amazing presentation. Jana Seale and her guitar created the perfect atmosphere with her music heard continually throughout the two show days, as well as the awards and preview night. Our show has been described by judges, vendors and visitors alike as one of the biggest and best in Western Canada. Thank you to all who
made the trek to our 2019 quilt show. We hope the inspiration acquired from this show will result in even more spectacular quilt making. Work has already begun on the 2021 show so get your sewing machines, or needles and thread, started!
This guild year we have incorporated a few sewing days that span from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. These have been an enormous success with members working on their own projects, or helping with a special technique, and plenty
of socializing. This is something that will hopefully continue as it brings together our guild community in a more relaxed timeframe.
We said goodbye to 2019 with a wonderful Christmas potluck. We were treated to a scrumptious buffet of goodies as we kick off the season of fellowship, kindness and giving.
Merry Christmas and all the best in 2020.
