Here in The Valley as it is known, is a small quilting group (31 members) named Annapolis Valley Quilt Guild.  The Valley is the lovely area of Southwest Nova Scotia made up of small towns and villages along the Bay of Fundy.    Our group is celebrating our 20th Anniversary this year.   Plans had already been started to have our celebration where we invite other groups to join us in a lunch with a speaker and Show and Tell.  Lots of Show and Tell.  Great food.

However, this won’t be our normal celebration with lovely food and enjoyable conversation.  The church basement where we meet in Bridgetown is off limits to us due to Covid.  But we are not without resources and meet once per month via Zoom.

One of our members has successfully, through e-mail and Zoom, been leading us and teaching techniques for a Mystery Quilt.  This is continuing our tradition of having members and others teach our members on a regular basis.  We also regularly do challenges like Row Robins and Round Robins. The resulting quilts are donated to local charities and to Quilts of Valour.  This year during Covid we are having a block a month challenge with the hopes we will be able to create donation quilts this year in spite of the challenges.  The theme is the Colours of Nova Scotia.  There is never a season without inspiration here.

Last summer we met in our local park and had a good turnout while remaining safe.  The park has a lovely bandstand just made for displaying quilts and a stand of trees made for a clothesline for more display.  So, we are going to celebrate in the park for the summer months subject to all the regulations for Covid.    We will take advantage of the lovely summer weather to meet and greet and show how we have been occupied. We might get 5 months of meetings in.  Good company, quilts, sun and breezes are a perfect combination for our guild.  We will raise an ice cream cone to all quilters who are keeping busy and taking advantage of the time to make QUILTS, try techniques, use up scraps.
